Gingerbread Man Mile

…The all too familiar line that the Gingerbread Man cries out as he runs away from an old woman who tries to bake him in an oven! In fact, in the 1875 St. Nicholas tale, the Gingerbread Man outruns several farm workers, farm animals, and a vicious fox. Now the question is…Can YOU run like the Gingerbread Man?

Once you’ve stocked the refrigerator with your turkey and pumpkin pie leftovers, kick off the 2012 holiday season by bringing your family to the Gingerbread Man Mile for Kids!, an event that we are sure the whole family will love. Join Potomac River Running and Reston Town Center for a little bit of running and a whole lot of shopping! Registration is FREE and all donations benefit Neediest Kids.

The course covers a 1-mile loop around Reston Town Center. Once kids finish, they can enjoy delicious gingerbread cookies and take part in the Reston Town Center Holiday Festival with their families, including a Macy’s Day-style parade, tree lighting, and more! Stores open at 8 a.m. – perfect for getting a head start on your holiday shopping!

Registration is FREE! Donations are greatly appreciated. All donations benefit Neediest Kids. We appreciate your contribution, if you are able. Your donation helps defray the costs of this event and enable us to make a contribution to the Neediest Kids. Please give what you can if you can. $15 or more is greatly appreciated, though of course not expected!

WHERE: Reston Town Center: 11900 Market Street, Reston, VA 20190

All races start and finish on Market Street, near the fountain.

WHEN: Friday, November 29, 2013, 8:00 a.m.

PACKET-PICKUP: Wednesday, November 27 at Potomac River Running Store, Reston Town Center from 3-7 p.m. Late registration also available that day. Also, packet pick up and late registration available Friday, November 29 beginning at 7 a.m. at Potomac River Running Store at Reston Town Center.

PHOTOS: FREE high resolution race photos will be available  for download from the Potomac River Running Flickr page. Keep an eye out for our on course/finish line photographer and be prepared to strike a pose! We will send an email notifying you when the pictures are ready to be shared.

RACE SCHEDULE:

8:00 a.m. – 6-7 year olds (1 mile)

8:15 a.m. – 8-9 year olds (1 mile)

8:30 a.m. – 10-11 year olds (1 mile)

8:45 a.m. – 12-14 year olds (1 mile)

9:00 a.m. – High School Division (1 mile)

9:10 a.m. – 4-5 year olds (one loop, approx .4 mile)

9:20 a.m. – Tot Trot (2 blocks)

11:00 a.m. – Holiday Parade

Following the final race, awards will be presented to the top three girls and boys finishers in each race (all tot trot finishers will receive a ribbon). Race winners will be able to take part in the parade following the races.  All winners will be escorted to the parade following the award ceremony.
*Please note: You must pick up your packet at one of the designated times. Packets will not be mailed after the race. In addition, awards must be claimed within two weeks of the conclusion of a race.
